The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), an independent agency which regulates civilian use of nuclear materials performed an inspection of the Nuclear Medicine Department on May 25, 2004.
The inspection was an examination of the activities conducted under the current license as it relates to radiation safety and to compliance with the NRC rules and regulations.
Inspections are an integral element of NRCs oversight of its licensees. The inspection assures that licensees meet the regulatory requirements. When facilities meet these requirements, they are conducting safe operations that keep the public and the environment from any undue nuclear risk.
Connie Salyards, R.T.R., Team Leader of Imaging at ARH, announced that the inspection of the Nuclear Medicine Department revealed no violations. All of the processes of compliance with the NRC were 100% in place.
Salyards commends the staff of the department for maintaining a comprehensive program that supports the NRC Rules and Regulations.
The Nuclear Medicine Department is directly supervised by Gail Tucker, R.T.R.N.M. Other staff members are Kathy Carson, R.T.R. and Judi Martin, R.T.R. Dr. Bruce Banning and Dr. Mary Zelenik serve as Radiation Safety Officers for the department.
